Finding a last-minute spot to let your dog run wild off-lead can be a bit of a scramble, especially on a warm summer evening when every outdoor secure field in Colchester is completely booked up!

That’s how we ended up taking advantage of a half-price summer offer to try out The Dog Barn Experience, a private indoor dog facility located just outside Colchester.
To be completely honest, I was a little apprehensive before arriving. I had visions of a sweltering hot, windowless tin box that would feel claustrophobic and uncomfortable after a hot day. But I was so pleasantly surprised! Here is our honest look at what it’s actually like inside.
First Impressions: Security & Climate of the Indoor Dog Barn
Arrival couldn't be easier. There is plenty of allocated parking right outside the entrance, so you don't have to navigate busy roads with an excited pup.
Access is controlled via a secure door with a keypad code, meaning no random passers-by or loose dogs can wander in while you're using the space. While there are no windows inside, it doesn't feel dark or dingy at all, the lighting is great, and despite my fears of a "hot tin can," the climate inside was surprisingly cool and comfortable even after a warm summer day.

What’s Inside: Equipment & Human Comforts
This isn't just a big empty room, it has been incredibly well thought out for both dogs and their owners.
🐶 For the Pups
The play equipment is fantastic. There’s plenty for your dog to climb, jump, and explore if you want to try some light agility training, though our pup was more than happy just zooming around using up her energy! They also provide a bucket full of dog toys to play with, as well as fresh water bowls and a water cooler to keep everyone hydrated.

☕ For the Humans (Bonus Points for Coffee!)
This is where the indoor barn really shines over a standard outdoor field. Inside, they have set up a lovely seating area equipped with deck chairs and a picnic bench.
Best of all? There is a hot drinks machine! For a small additional cost, you can make yourself a hot tea or coffee,
complete with a whole range of flavoured syrups. Combine that with the free Wi-Fi, and I can already see myself bringing my laptop here during the colder months to catch up on work emails with a warm coffee while the dog plays safely.
The Final Verdict
We spent 50 minutes in the barn and felt it was worth every penny of the discounted offer. More importantly, I would definitely pay full price to book it again when the weather turns bad. It is going to be an absolute lifesaver during the wet, dark, and muddy winter months when outdoor walks aren't quite as appealing! Indoor Dog Barn Hire Essex | Essex Only | Foxes Farm Fields
